Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Why the challenge

Sunday 1st Nov

I’ve decided to set myself a reading challenge because I’ve noticed that my reading has taken a bit of a back seat recently. I want to get back into the habit, have something to work towards and, most importantly, hold myself accountable.

I also want to make a conscious effort to spend less time scrolling on my phone and more time doing something that feels meaningful and rewarding. Particularly on these dark nights.

Reading is about more than just enjoyment. Literacy and lifelong learning have important links to health and wellbeing, supporting cognitive function, mental health, knowledge and connection with the world around us.

Alongside the personal challenge, I also want to use it as an opportunity to raise money for a cause that is very close to my heart: dementia. Both my Nan and Grandma suffered with dementia during their lives, so it’s something that has affected my family personally. I’d love to turn a positive personal challenge into an opportunity to support others affected by this devastating condition and contribute towards greater awareness, research and support.

Ultimately, this challenge is about making more time for books, rediscovering the joy of reading, building healthier habits and hopefully making a little difference along the way – one page at a time.
