Walk 30 Miles in September 2026

I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

For our relatives

Saturday 15th Aug

If you’ve known me with for a while, you’ll know that over the year(pre covid) myself and my members used to do sponsored walks  raising many thousands of pounds for some very worthwhile causes.

The very first sponsored walk I ever did was for  Alzheimer's Society and for a number of years afterwards we raised money for the hospice.

This year, for personal reasons, I’ve decided to return to where it all began and take part in Walk 30 Miles in September, raising funds for Dementia UK. 💜

My mum had dementia, so I know only too well how cruel and heartbreaking this disease can be. It can take away so much of a person’s dignity and independence, and it is incredibly difficult not only for the person living with dementia, but also for their family and loved ones.

More recently, another relative has been admitted to hospital with dementia. I’ve been going up to see him over the past few weeks and honestlyit has been heartbreaking watching someone you love go through this.

There are funny moments — moments that make you smile and laugh — but there are also so many incredibly sad moments. 💔

So, I’ve decided to challenge myself and walk 30 miles throughout September, with the aim of raising £500 for Dementia UK. 💜

For some, a mile a day might not sound like a lot, but because I now have arthritis in both my hips, I have to be realistic about what I can manage. I feel that one mile a day is something I can commit to. Oh how I wish I was able to do 5 miles a day like I used to and walk up hills and mountains 😔

My plan is to do two half-mile walks each day — if able to do in one walk I will 🚶‍♀️  If somedays I am not able will hopefully make it up

If I’m able to do more, I absolutely will, but I want to set myself a challenge that I know I can realistically achieve.

💜 I would be incredibly grateful for any sponsorship, no matter how big or small.

My target is £500, and every single pound will help Dementia UK support families facing the devastating reality of dementia.

This is something that is very close to my heart, and I’m hoping that with your support I can reach my target. 💜

30 miles. One mile at a time. For Mum, for relative , and for every family affected by dementia.

Thank you so much for your support. It really does mean a lot. 💜

Well done Doreen. Dementia has affected the lives of so many of our relatives over the years so this charity is very close to our hearts. Good luck with your walk xo
