I'm walking 30 miles in September

I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Day 28

Sunday 28th Sep
Nope, that’s not a mistake for how long it took me to walk 1.41 miles!  That’s what happens when your walking involves shopping.  The 19,000+ steps were a lot more than 1.41 miles, but Map my Walk obviously doesn’t count it as distance if going round the shop 😂. Lovely day with my girls 💕

Day 25

Thursday 25th Sep
Don been away all week, so took his car to the train station so was ready for him getting back tonight.  Walk back from the station before dinner

Day 24

Wednesday 24th Sep
After work, visit to mum and dad before heading home to do my walk.  Can’t believe it was already getting dark, so street walk tonight.

Day 23

Tuesday 23rd Sep
Today would have been my Auntie’s birthday.  She sadly passed away December 2023.  She also had dementia and today’s walk was spent remembering her 💜

Day 22

Monday 22nd Sep
Thank you so much to all that have sponsored me already.  Today I reached the target of 30 miles, and am now over my original target of £200 raised.  But I’m not stopping walking, and donations are still gratefully received.  8 days to go!

Day 21

Sunday 21st Sep
Heading for a day out with friends, but managed to fit in my mile before, accompanied by my grand puppy Daisy 😁

Day 17

Wednesday 17th Sep
In the office today before visiting my mum and dad, so a mile walk after work.

Day 15 and 16

Tuesday 16th Sep
So I forgot to map my walk yesterday when travelling back from London, so today made sure to do 2 miles to make up for it 😁

Day 14

Sunday 14th Sep
Very different pace when walking with others. Last full day in London

Day 13

Sunday 14th Sep
Walked around London for few hours, but still did the mile especially for Dementia UK

Day 12

Saturday 13th Sep
Weekend in London and doing lots of walking, but still wanted to log a specific mile for Dementia UK

Day 11

Thursday 11th Sep
Had Daisy keeping me company on today’s walk.  Fitted in before work as I need to get packing for trip to London this evening.

Day 9

Tuesday 9th Sep
Out to Odeon tonight, so walk squeezed in while car getting new battery fitted.  Not as pretty as my park walks but needs must and all that 😁

Day 7 - 1st week done

Sunday 7th Sep
So many people I know walk or run so much more than I’m doing.  But, feeling I’m achieving 😁

Day 6

Saturday 6th Sep
Lovely day, but still busy.  Pace bit slower today, partly as my route included lots of stone steps and some beach walking, but also cause I met a woman with a really cute puppy 😁

Day 4

Thursday 4th Sep
Well it turns out I’ve become even more unfit than I realised since don’t have Poppy to motivate me to walk. Dodgy hip, shin splints (which until now I thought were what footballers put in their socks,) giving me grief, but just keeping going. Weather was at least better today 😁

Day 2

Tuesday 2nd Sep
Busy day at work so a quick walk after dinner before visitors arrive

Day 1

Monday 1st Sep
First walk completed

Walking for mum

Friday 29th Aug
If you’re a friend on Facebook you probably know my mum has dementia.  After breaking her ankle and then having a fall in hospital in April 2023, her dementia was significantly impacted and she lost her mobility.  We’ve been very lucky to find a great care home, where her and dad have now been living for a year - 28th August was their year anniversary..  Doing this challenge for mum 💜
