Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Book 5 for this challenge finished

Sunday 4th Oct
This author is so good it’s been so easy to read her book it’s really interesting storyline covering WWII, orphanages, fostering,  political antics, East End gang wars, children’s & adult hospitals & surprising how many may have been used to house homeless children & adults around wartime when things were altered but what shines through is excellent storytelling & a really fascinating cast of characters. Think I’m going to enjoy this saga 🙂

Another book finished

You can’t really beat a Kitty Neale book if you fancy a good read & want something  with a great storyline to keep you going from chapter to chapter.  Her sagas are brilliant as are her standalone novels. They’re like your old comfy cardigan nice to curl up with when you need a break from life’s stresses.

Just finished another book.

Tuesday 29th Sep
This is the hardest part about reading sagas when there’s lots of books but you don’t have them all. Just finished book 6 of The Harpers Girls by Rosie Clarke, it was so good WWI has just finished & the horrors the men saw are still fresh in their minds, the horrific injuries many suffered are still taking the men time to recover from, some having painful surgery to repair damage, some with terrible burns or missing limbs trying to live their new normal lives. Then there’s Harpers Emporium still going after a hard 4 years war, will it continue to thrive with Ben & Sally thinking up new stock to hold.

Will life ever return to pre-war lives for some characters or have their losses  been too much for them. Can’t wait to read the rest of the saga.

Another book finished & huge thank you to my generous donors ❤️

Just finished book 5 in The Harpers Girls saga & really enjoying this saga each book just keeps getting better the only downside is it’s not very good for my planned improvement to my sleeping routine as the storylines are you entriguing that it’s often “Just finish this page” which often leads to “just few pages to end of chapter may as well finish the chapter now”
Thank you so much to my donors for your generosity to this brilliant charity.

Finished my first book for this challenge.

Wednesday 23rd Sep
Just finished the fourth book in the Harpers saga written by Rosie Clarke. It’s a really interesting saga set just a few years before WWI & follows the lives of the American owner of a new emporium in Oxford Street London called Harpers. Ben was left shares in the emporium by his uncle who had planned to open the store but then suddenly sadly died leaving the store to his nephew Ben Harper. WWI has now started many of the male employees have signed up for King & country even Ben has signed up to the forces and his many contacts from America are helping the British forces getting food, medicine, transport parts & so much more get to the places that need it thanks to help from the Americans. Female employees like Beth, Rachael, Maggie, Marion & many more are doing their bit for the war too. Couples fell in love, married faster grabbing what love & time they could with their new husbands or boyfriends before they’re sent off to war. The day to day lives & problems of running an emporium during war is very fascinating to read.
