I'm walking 30 miles in September

I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Dementia took Mum and Dad

Saturday 30th Aug
My husband Andrew and I have been looking after his Mum since 2016 as she suffers from Dementia. My Mum was admitted to a nursing home in December 2020 as she was unable to cope on her own due to her dementia. We would travel up to South Ockendon Essex to visit, but we were limited during the COVID pandemic.Sadly she left us on June 5,2021, she was in the home for 6 months.
My husband has been a great support and we work together to look after his Mum.
Unfortunately my Dad was diagnosed with mixed Alzheimer’s and dementia and was admitted to a nursing home in November 2022. He was unable to cope after his wife, my stepmother died. It was hard seeing him deteriorate. Then I received a call on September 6,2024 that he had a fall in the home. He was hospitalised at Broomfield hospital in Chelmsford Essex. When we went to visit him, he knew we were family but didn’t know my name. As the days went on he stopped eating and had a seizure and died on October 8,2024.
Now, Andrew and I share our time looking after his Mum, it is sad to see her deteriorating too.
Semesters our Loved ones and all I want to do is encourage anyone who is supporting a Loved one on this journey.
