Day 13 - The Finish Line! 🎉

Monday 13th Oct
And just like that… I did it! 💪
A foggy start this morning, but I wasn’t about to let that stop me, managed a final 3.1 km (1.9 miles) walk, taking me to a grand total of 64.3 miles for the month so far! 👣
That’s right, the 62-mile challenge is officially complete!
It feels surreal to have reached the finish line, but truth be told… I don’t think I’ll be stopping anytime soon. I’ve decided to keep walking and see if I can hit 100 miles before the month’s out.
The page will stay open for the rest of the month, so if you’ve been meaning to sponsor me but haven’t yet, there’s still time to help make a difference for Dementia UK 💙
Every pound helps families like mine get the support they need.
Today’s stats:
Steps: 7,285
Distance: 3.1 km / 1.9 miles
Calories: 390
Total so far: 103.5 km / 64.3 miles 🚶‍♂️
Motivation of the Day:
"The fog may blur the view, but it never stops the journey."

Day 12 - The Almost There Sunday!

Sunday 12th Oct
Is it fanfare time yet? 🎺
Well… not quite! It’s Sunday after all, and with a few housey jobs calling my name, today turned into a bit of a lazy one.
Still, I managed a circuit this morning and a shorter street walk this evening, nothing dramatic, but it all counts as I inch closer to that 62 mile goal.
Steps: 7,713
Distance: 5.2 km / 3.2 miles
That brings me up to 61.2 miles in total, less than a mile to go! 👣
It might not have been a record breaker today, but every step still counts. The finish line’s in sight, and I’m determined to cross it strong 💪
If you’ve been meaning to sponsor me but haven’t got round to it yet, now’s the time, let’s finish this challenge on a high for Dementia UK 💙
Motivation of the Day:
"Progress isn’t about perfection - it’s about showing up, even on the quiet days." 🌿

Day 11 - Double Trouble on the Trail 😄👣

Saturday 11th Oct
A few circuits completed today, and look who joined me! Diane decided to tag along, though I think it was mostly to make sure I didn’t get lost or end up in the coffee shop again 😆
We took it at an easy pace, chatting as we went and enjoying the fresh air, it’s amazing how much better a walk feels with good company (even if she rolled her eyes at my selfie attempts!).
Steps: 16,567
Distance: 10.2 km / 6.3 miles
Calories burned: 561 kcal
Total distance so far: 93.4 km / 58 miles
Raised so far: £778 💙
A huge thank you again to everyone who’s donated so far, you’re absolute stars! 🌟
If you haven’t yet and fancy brightening my day (and keeping me walking!), even £1 makes a difference and keeps me motivated to hit that 62-mile target and beyond.

Motivation for today:
“You don’t have to go fast - you just have to keep going.” 💪

Day 10 - Coffee, Countryside & Good Vibes 👣☕🥪

Saturday 11th Oct
The plan was to take a full charity day today and really get plenty of miles in… but as these things go, the day didn’t quite pan out as intended!
I had an appointment first thing (though I did manage a quick circuit beforehand), then later headed out for a lovely walk that led me to the Gog Farm Shop near Cambridge and wow, that sausage and egg bap might just be the best I’ve ever had 😋
Rounded off the day with a short evening walk to keep things ticking over.
Steps: 12,084
Distance: 8.5 km / 5.3 miles
Calories burned: ~495 kcal
Total distance so far: 83.2 km / 51.7 miles
Raised so far: £768 for Dementia UK 💙
Almost at the finish line now, every step is for Mum, and every message and donation keeps me going, thankyou all so much 💙.

Motivation for today:
“Enjoy the little things - because one day you’ll look back and realise they were the big things.” 🌿

Day 9 - One of Those Days 😅

Friday 10th Oct
I’ll be honest, yesterday felt like a bit of a let down. The day started off busy with work, so I missed my usual morning walk, and things didn’t improve much from there!
I did manage to get out for an evening walk, but my energy wasn’t quite where it’s been lately. It’s days like these I’m grateful to have a few miles in the bank already.
And yes… I even forgot to grab a photo while out. Note to self: must do better! 😆
Still, the journey continues and I’m back at it today, aiming for a big one to get closer to that 62 mile goal.
Yesterday’s steps: 5,731, 2.6 miles / 4.2 km, 150 kcal burned
Total so far: 73.1 km (46.4 miles)
Raised so far: £713 for Dementia UK 💙
I’m so grateful for everyone who’s already sponsored me, your support means the world. And for anyone who hasn’t yet… even £1 would make me smile and keep those legs moving! 😉
Motivation for today:
“Progress isn’t about perfection - it’s about persistence.” 💪

Day 8 – Rain, Shine, and Christmas Lights?! 🎄☔

Wednesday 8th Oct
Started the day with a wet early morning walk before work (you can tell from my expression 😅). Managed to grab another half hour at lunchtime when the sun came out and it actually got quite warm.
Then this evening I went out again in the dark and couldn’t believe it… someone already has their Christmas lights up! It’s only October 8th!
Today’s stats:
👣 14,784 steps
📏 10.3 km (6.4 miles)
🔥 598 kcal burned
Total so far: 70.5 km (43.8 miles)
Raised so far: £713 for Dementia UK 💙
Every comment, donation, and bit of encouragement keeps me going — thank you all so much for the support.
Motivation for today:
“You don’t have to see the whole path, just take the next step.” 🌟

Day 7 – Still Going Strong 💙

Wednesday 8th Oct
Did the usual morning circuit, not quite as warm but still beautiful sunshine. Lunchtime got away from me, this evening Diane joined me for a circuit and couldn’t quite hide what she thought of my pose 😄
A lighter day than recent ones, but every step still counts.
Today: 10,598 steps, 6.7 km (4.2 miles), 380 kcal
Total so far: 60.2 km (37.4 miles)
Raised so far: £698 for Dementia UK
Motivation of the day:
Forward is forward, no matter the pace. 💪

Day 6 – Sunshine, Steps, and Stress Relief ☀️

Monday 6th Oct
What a glorious day today, warm enough to be out in my Dementia UK t-shirt! I did a lap of the fields and woods before work, then another at lunchtime. It’s roughly 3 km each time, maybe a little more, and I can pace it round in just under 40 minutes.
This evening I switched it up with a street walk, wandering down random roads with no set route, just letting my thoughts drift. It’s amazing how walking helps clear the head and ease the day’s stresses.
Today’s stats:
13,054 steps, 10.8 km (around 6.7 miles), 681 kcal burned.
Total distance so far: 53.4 km / 33.2 miles
Raised so far: £683 for Dementia UK 💙
Your support and kind words continue to mean so much. Every donation and message keeps me going, and every mile helps families get the support they need.
Motivation for today:
“Sometimes the best therapy is a long walk and quiet thoughts.” 🌿

Day 5 – Walking with Family 💙

Sunday 5th Oct
A lovely Sunday walk today, we decided to walk to lunch instead of driving, and it turned into a really nice family outing. Ended up covering just under 7 km, and then this evening I added a circuit through the fields and woods, which were far drier than expected!
🌿
That brings me to 10.9 km (around 6.8 miles) for the day, 17,006 steps, and 539 calories burned.
I’m absolutely blown away by the support — £565 raised so far! 🙏 Your generosity and kind messages really do mean the world to me. Every step I take is for Dementia UK, in memory of my mum, Pauline, and to help more families get the specialist support they need.
After five days, I’ve now walked a total of 26.5 miles, which means I’m around 43% of the way there!
Even though I’ve passed my initial fundraising target, the page remains open, I’d love to keep pushing and raise as much as possible before the end of the month. Every little bit truly helps 💙

Motivation for today: "A journey is best measured in smiles, not miles"

Day 4 – Twisted but not beaten! 😅

Saturday 4th Oct
It’s Saturday, and although the day ran away with me, I still got out there for my walk, even if it wasn’t until after 8pm. With the recent rain, I avoided the fields and stuck to pavements, clocking up 7.6 km (4.7 miles), 11,998 steps, and 333 calories burned.
That brings my total so far to 29.8 km (18.5 miles), which means I’ve now covered 30% of my 62-mile challenge. Just 43.5 miles to go! 👣
Excuse the pained look in tonight’s photo, I managed to twist my ankle on the kerb (ouch!) but thankfully nothing serious. These small setbacks are all part of the journey, and I’m determined to keep going strong.
I’m walking this October for Dementia UK, in memory of my wonderful mum, Pauline 💙
So far, thanks to everyone’s incredible generosity, I’ve raised £430 of my £500 target — only £70 to go!
Motivation for today:
“It’s not about how fast you go, it’s about showing up, even on the tough days.” 💪

🌟 Day 3 Update 🌟

Saturday 4th Oct
8 km (5 miles) walked today 🚶‍♂️ (10,384 steps | 456 calories burned)
Total so far: 22.2 km (13.8 miles)
That’s 22% of my 62-mile challenge completed ✅
It was too windy to head out tonight, so today’s walking was a mix of a bigger walk this morning and a smaller one this evening. Sometimes you just have to listen to the weather!
On the fundraising front, I’m now only £130 away from my £500 target 🙌. The support so far has been incredible, thank you to everyone who has donated. Every bit really does make a difference to families affected by dementia. 💙
Tomorrow I’ll be pushing harder to get those miles in, I’m determined to smash both my walking and fundraising targets.
Motivation of the day:
"Small steps every day add up to big change."

Day 2 — 9.1 km Walked (5.65 miles)

Thursday 2nd Oct
Day 2 is complete and I’ve managed 9.1 km today, bringing my total so far to just over 10 miles walked.
This morning I got out early, heading round the field and through the woods before work, bit of a misty start to the day. Then tonight I went back out and did a full circuit again, adding about a third extra to push the distance further.
I was joined this evening by my nephew Ryan Barnes, great to have some company on the walk and to share part of this journey with him.
I’m walking 62 miles this month for Dementia UK, in memory of my mum Pauline, and to help raise funds for families living with dementia. Every mile makes a difference 💙

Day 1 — 4.4 Miles Walked

Wednesday 1st Oct

Day 1 is complete and I’ve managed 7.1 km, which is just over 4.4 miles. That’s more than double the daily average I need to reach my 62-mile goal for October, so I’m feeling really positive about the start.

This morning I walked into town and back up to the nature reserve behind my house, then this evening I went out again, completing a full circuit around the field and through the reserve.

I even recorded a few videos along the way. They’re not perfect, a bit breathless and rambling, but they capture the moment and show what this challenge means to me.

I’m walking these 62 miles in memory of my mum Pauline and to raise funds for Dementia UK. Every step counts, and every donation helps families living with dementia get the support they need.

Thank you so much for following my journey 💙

All Starts Tomorrow!

Tuesday 30th Sep
Tomorrow marks the start of October and with it my challenge to walk 62 miles in support of Dementia UK. This cause is very close to my heart as many of you know, and every step I take this month will be in memory of my mum Pauline and for all the families living with dementia right now.
I’ll be sharing little updates along the way and would be so grateful for any support, whether that’s a donation, a kind word, or simply cheering me on.
Thankyou so much for those that have sponsored me so far, every £1 makes a difference.

Why I’m Walking 62 Miles This October

Monday 15th Sep

This October I’m taking on the challenge of walking 62 miles for Dementia UK. It’s a cause that means so much to me because my mum, Pauline, lived with dementia in her later years.

Walking these miles is my way of honouring her, remembering the love and loyalty she showed throughout her life, and helping to raise funds so other families can get the support they need.

It won’t always be easy, but every mile I walk will be for her and for the countless families who know how tough dementia can be.

Thank you for supporting me — whether it’s through a donation, a kind word, or simply following my journey, it all means the world.

A £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!
