I'm jogging one mile a day for Dementia UK and in memory of my mum Di Bonner

This April, I'm jogging one mile each day and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Day 30 and the END!

Wednesday 30th Apr
Hello everyone - the very last day of my Jog a Mile a day in April for DementiaUK in memory of my mum Di Bonner. Thank you everyone for listening in, donating, liking and generally keeping me going! Well done for all the donations to this fabulous cause. xx

Day 25

Friday 25th Apr
Day 25 - only 5 more days to go. I have run 33 miles up to this point and am hoping to do at least 5 more before the end of the month, although fitting it in with art school on Sunday will be fun! Running has become easier although I remember back from years ago when I ran my 10k that the first 10 minutes make you want to stop. Then the hurting kicks in ! Only joking, it's been fine and in fact last week's yoga class made me ache more.  See you on the 30th April!

Day 21

Monday 21st Apr
So I'm onto the last third of the month now. 9 days left, I felt very tired this morning but I ran my mile. I miss you mum.

Day 19

Saturday 19th Apr
So Day 19 and I ran a longer one today 2.2 miles. I feel very proud that I have run 24 miles in April so far - only 6 miles off the target amount which was run 30 miles in April. It's been a difficult month coinciding with mum's sudden decline and passing. I did think we might have the summer together but the Alzheimer's was getting worse and when she was also diagnosed with a bone marrow cancer I think it was far kinder for her to pass quickly. I run every day and think of her.

Day 16

Wednesday 16th Apr
I'm well over halfway now, still running and achieving slightly more than 1 mile per day. The funeral went off very well and lots of lovely people made donations to my mum's three charities. All the money has been paid in to the various charities and a good total has been amassed. Very many thanks to all who donated!

Mum’s Funeral

Monday 14th Apr
So today is a big day, mum’s funeral. People say it’s a firm of closure so I hope it will be. I know lots of friends and family are coming to help celebrate my dear mum’s life so here’s to meeting up.

Day 12

Sunday 13th Apr
Harrie and Pete are here for mum's funeral so we all (Richard included) went out for a long jog. 2.5 miles and 40 minutes. I ran all the way and felt very good about being alive out in the sunshine with my family. Thanks to every one who has sponsored me - I'm still going and almost halfway!

Day 6

Sunday 6th Apr
I decided to run my mile at the gym today. It felt easier than previous days, maybe that's just coz I was on a flat treadmill! Anyway it's been going well, I'm just praying I don't do too much and get injured!

Day 4

Friday 4th Apr
I've managed really well this last 4 days, mainly because the weather has been so good. Let's wait till a rainy day and see how I cope. I think as I run I'm thinking about my mum who would have loved to be out walking in any sort of weather and I keep going!

Day One!

Tuesday 1st Apr
A big day today - it was mum’s 88th birthday and I had to register her death 😔and I also began my mile a day challenge for DementiaUK!  I won’t let her or my lovely sponsors down.  I will do it!!
