Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 100 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Day 31 - Final day, final walk 4 miles today.

Saturday 31st Jan
Day 31 - Well, I have thoroughly enjoyed this walking for dementia challenge. I have just walked my last 4 miles at the fabulous Rutland Water. It's been a lovely, bright, and sunny day. A time to reflect on the challenge and to think about my dad, who is living with the late stage of Alzheimer's.  I cherish the moments we have, without words, communication is through touch, such as holding hands and hugging dad. I am now going to look for a new wheelchair for him, one that can get over the kerbs so that I can take him out in the sunshine.  Total miles walked 113, and I have raised £700.

Week 1 completed. I have walked 29.02 miles - New target 100 miles in Jan

Thursday 8th Jan
Having completed week one, I have decided today to increase my walking target to 100 Miles in January. My dad is in the late stage of Alzheimer's, and it's heartbreaking to see the decline. The cognitive decline, loss of speech, the physical decline, and the inability to walk unsupported or perform daily activities.  The waking moments are few, and I try to capture each one. This is why I am walking for dementia.
I am grateful for the ongoing support from my friends, family, and colleagues.
