Wednesday 4th Feb My Grandma was the first to be diagnosed a number of years ago with Vascular dementia bless my grandad at the time he tried his hardest to keep his wife at home but was unable to cope as my grandad had just fought cancer himself for the second time. It came to the decision my grandma had to be moved into a care home which killed my grandad including my family, she’s still  here today but is now on end of life dementia. Recently near the end of 2025  my Grandad was then diagnosed with dementia but unlike my grandma he declined rapidly despite having living at home carers it just wasn’t suitable for him and he too ended up in a care home where unfortunately in the first week he had two accidents and is now in Hospital wether he returns to the care home is another  question but we’re lucky he’s still here too. These two people are absolute hero’s to me, if you came to my grandparents house you would find grandma always in the kitchen cooking and baking away , and grandad  always in the garden or spoiling me and my brother rotten when he knew he shouldn’t but he didn’t care because we were the favourites he would whisper this to us but  he never told the other grandkids it was our secret . Dementia is the devil and I would give my right leg to have at least an hour back where they remembered my face and my name or just for that one last cuddle with grandma and that one last planting of potatoes with grandad in the garden. Their children and their grandchildren and great grandchildren were their everything there’s nothing grandma and grandad would not do for us Share
