Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Day 18...51.2 miles done

Tuesday 20th Jan
I have achieved the goal!!! However, let's see how many miles I can do by the end of January in recognition of the kind donations made.. thank you all x

Day 3 - 4.03 miles

Saturday 3rd Jan
Day 3 walk = 4.03 miles...Today's walk took in 2 churches my Mum was lay clergy for... St Marks and St Andrews. A brief stop half way at the community farm for a cup of tea ÷ I would sometimes take Mum there for a cuppa. My lungs feel like they're on fire, but very proud of my efforts

Day 2 - 2.28 miles

Friday 2nd Jan
DAY 2... 50 MILES IN JANUARY FOR DEMENTIA UK

It was cold!!!!! Today I walked to see Mum and Dad's old house in Ford. It was when my dad died, that changes in Mum's memory became more obvious... this was their dream house and I was so pleased they managed to live here...there were many happy memories (as well as the sadder ones) of family times together and parties. Mum loved planning parties and hosting friends and family.

Day 1 - 2.89miles

Thursday 1st Jan
So today was a trip down memory lane with a walk to see Mum's old house past beautiful chalk river landscape of Wiltshire on the way.  Many memories on this beautiful sunshine filled winter's day.

Starting tomorrow

Wednesday 31st Dec
Tomorrow will be a shorter walk than planned... I've had flu and am still quite short of breath and coughing 🙃.... however, my Mum and my Godmother and so many others have had to cope with far greater challenges when living with dementia. So tomorrow, I will be walking ( probably quite slowly) to my Mum's last house, which should clock up a couple of miles...every little helps 😀.

50 miles of memories of people on a dementia journey

Saturday 27th Dec
So, today has been planning for ways to meet my goal of walking 50 miles in January in memory of my Mum, Jean; my God mother,  Joan and all the people I had the privilege to meet through my work in Mental Health over many years.
In my opinion, Dementia care has been slower in its evolution than other sectors of healthcare. Through raising money, more is available for research and development in this sector. Dementia does not discriminate, anyone from any background can be affected by it.  With improvements in care and treatment, people and families affected can live better lives.
I have decided to 'do my miles' wherever possible in places I have not been before, creating new memories for myself. Some of these will be walking around places my Mum talked about so I can see villages and countryside that was meaningful to her.
I am grateful for every donation made to this worthy cause.
