Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Day 23 - only 7 miles to go!

Monday 26th Jan
Apologies for the lack of an update, and also the wearing of the t-shirt that was provided. Its too cold outside! I have now achieved 43 miles and I have 8 days left!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and sponsored, but also encouraged me psychologically. I have definitely moved more but doing a little every day and more when I can has not been difficult. Its helped me realise I can definitely build movement into my life for a healthier me without having to go to the gym or find dedicated time and making excuses for not achieving it!

I know this funding will be put to good use so thank you everyone. January is a difficult month to spare money so thank you for giving up something this month in order to give to a fantastic cause.

Day 6 update

Tuesday 6th Jan
Day 6 and so far I have achieved 16.5 miles! Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I am back at work now so a little trickier for long walks but will get one in at the weekend.

9.5 miles complete on day 2

Friday 2nd Jan
Started off strong on a 7.5 mile walk in Wales on need year day. Glorious scenery, lots of sheep staring at us and quite some hills! But super proud. Before getting the kids back today managed two miles just to walk in the crunchy snow and the sunshine. Lots of snow planned for next week but will try and get out with the kids tomorrow too to add to the miles.

Nature, blue skies, fresh air =an amazing start to 2026.

Keep motivating me for the cause and help me build these healthy habits, thank you. Xx

Day two - 9.5 miles

Friday 2nd Jan
Getting the kids back today but squeezed in a 2 mile walk to the high street. Listened to music, looked at the blue sky and light snow on the ground. Bumped into a lovely person I work with. Then fun with the kids when they returned to me for next few days. Missed them. Time to be grateful and to lead by example with healthy habits.

From 0 miles to 50…why?

Wednesday 31st Dec
My life and health has completely changed since Covid and working a lot from home, being a single mum to two amazing children, and trying to keep on top of life admin, has resulted in becoming very inactive.

My Nan had dementia and became mostly housebound for so long before she sadly passed away. Her world shrank and she became anxious when outside of her house.

So, there is the why. I am heading towards my 50’s at turbo speed and I need to  care for myself better but I need motivation and that comes from doing something for others.

I work in research in all areas of health and care and the one thing I have control of right now is my ability to improve my health and reduce the risk of dementia.

So by making this pledge very public I am hoping this helps me and others build healthy habits into our lives and so fewer people are at risk of dementia when activity can help in some way towards this.

I know January is a hard month for everyone money-wise but anything you can spare to go towards helping people who are living with dementia, and the impact it has on their families as carers. It’s flippin hard! We all have to work and that means an extra demand on our wellbeing when supporting loved ones with dementia also and anything we can do to help each other is what all of us should be striving for as a community.
