Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Day 28 – 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 Today I added another 3.47 miles, taking my total to 52.70 miles, meaning I’ve officially smashed my 50-mile challenge in just 28 days 🎉💪 I’ll be keeping going right to the end of the month, but reaching this milestone feels incredibly special, especially as the weather has definitely been against me at times. Cold mornings, ice, wind, and plenty of rain have all been part of this journey. Every mile has been walked in memory of my precious Dad and my mother-in-law Gill, and for everyone affected by dementia. There have been sore muscles, blisters, and tough days, but also beautiful moments and amazing support. A huge thank you to all my friends and family who have donated and encouraged me along the way, I honestly couldn’t have done this without you. If anyone would still like to donate, even £1 helps and it all adds up 💙 Thank you for being part of this journey with me, I’m so proud to have done this.

Day 25 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 Today I added a big 5.06 miles, taking my total to 49.23 miles, which means I now have just 0.77 miles left to reach 50 💙 Today’s walk took me along the Tardebigge Locks to the bottom and back, the UK’s longest flight of canal locks, featuring 30 narrow locks on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, lifting boats 220 feet over 2.25 miles near Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. A tough but fascinating route, and definitely one to remember. I wasn’t on my own today, my husband Ian joined me, and having his support alongside me meant everything 💙 Every single mile has been walked in memory of my precious Dad and my mother-in-law Gill, and for everyone affected by dementia. I can’t quite believe I’m now less than a mile from the finish line. Thank you so much to all my friends and family who have supported and donated along the way. If anyone would still like to donate, even £1 helps and it all adds up. The finish line is so close now… one last push 💪💙

That takes my total to 34.15 miles, and I won’t lie, that was tough going. It was a real test, both physically and mentally, and I had to dig deep to keep going. Sunday 11th Jan
Day 11 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 An early walk out on my own this morning, managing 2.45 miles to start the day right. That brings my total to 26.05 miles, which means I’m now over halfway through my 50-mile challenge — something I’m incredibly proud of. This journey has had its cold mornings, icy paths, sore muscles, and quiet moments, but every step is taken in memory of my Dad and my mother-in-law, and for everyone affected by dementia. If you’d like to support me and this wonderful cause, please consider donating. Every penny counts and truly makes a difference 💙 Thank you so much for all the encouragement and support — it means more than you know.

Saturday 10th Jan
Day 10 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 Today I completed a 2.44 mile walk back along the Kidderminster canal to Wolverley Lock. The ice underfoot was pretty treacherous, so it was definitely a walk that needed care and concentration. I wasn’t on my own though, Ian walked with me today, and having his support made all the difference. Even on the tougher, slower days, I’m proud to still be getting the miles in. Every step is taken in memory of my Dad and my mother-in-law, and for everyone affected by dementia. If you’d like to support this amazing cause, please consider donating, every penny counts, and it truly helps keep me going 💙 Thank you so much for all the encouragement and support along the way. 🙏

Thursday 8th Jan
Day 8 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 Today wasn’t the easiest day. I managed 2.06 miles, walking in the rain and with a pulled muscle — but I still got out there and kept going. I’ve now walked over 21 miles in just 8 days, so I’m still ahead overall, which I’m really proud of. This challenge was never about perfect conditions or easy days — it’s about perseverance, showing up, and doing what I can, even when it’s tough. I’m doing this challenge in memory of my Dad and my mother-in-law, which gives me strength on the harder days and reminds me why every step matters. If you’d like to support me and this very special cause, please consider donating. Every penny counts, and Dementia affects so many of us in one way or another 💙 Thank you so much for all the encouragement and support , it truly means the world.

Wednesday 7th Jan
Day 7 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 Today was a big one , I walked 5.76 miles and clocked up 14,888 steps along the canal from Wolverley Lock to Cookley, then on to Caunsall and back. Thankfully, it wasn’t quite as cold today, which definitely made the longer distance more enjoyable. The canal was calm and peaceful, and it felt good to really stretch the legs and take in the surroundings. Days like today remind me why I started this challenge, pushing myself, one step at a time, for a cause that means so much. Dementia touches so many lives, and every mile walked is for those affected 💙 If you’d like to support me, please consider donating, every penny truly counts and is hugely appreciated. Thank you so much for all the continued encouragement and support. It really does keep me going 💙

Monday 5th Jan
Day 5 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 Today I managed 3.42 miles along the canal from Kidderminster to Wolverley and back, another step forward in this challenge. My brother-in-law Dave kindly volunteered to walk with me for support, and I really enjoyed (and truly appreciated) the company. Thanks so much, Dave it really helped keep me going 👏 It was a chilly minus 4 when we set off, though it’s thankfully thawing out now. And as proof the miles are adding up… I’ve officially earned my first blister 🤣 I’m doing this challenge to raise awareness and funds for Dementia, a cause that touches so many of us in one way or another. If you’re able to donate, every penny counts and helps make a real difference. Thank you so much for all the encouragement and support so far, it truly means the world 💙

Sunday 4th Jan
Day 4 of my 50 Miles in January for Dementia 💙 This morning I managed 3.03 miles on a cold, frosty start, walking alongside my husband Ian — and it turned out to be a really special walk. We enjoyed a lovely stretch along the canal from Wolverley to Cookley, peaceful and beautifully still in the winter light. One of those walks that just feels good for the soul. The most touching moment was when a Robin landed right on the fence in front of us, so close and so calm. I’d like to think it was my Dad, walking with us today ❤️ I’m doing this challenge to support Dementia, a condition that will affect us all in one way or another — whether it’s a loved one, a friend, or ourselves. If you’re able to donate, every single penny truly counts and helps make a difference. Your support means more than you know and keeps me going, step by step 💙 Thank you so much for all the encouragement so far — it really does mean the world.

Thursday 1st Jan

For My Dad & Gill

Friday 19th Dec

This January, I’ll be walking 50 miles for dementia.

In October 2024, I lost my dad to vascular dementia , a cruel illness that slowly takes pieces of the people we love long before we’re ready to say goodbye. Watching him fade was heartbreaking, and losing him has changed me forever.

Now, dementia is still very much part of our lives. My wonderful mother-in-law, Gill, is living with this disease, and once again we’re seeing just how devastating it can be, not only for those diagnosed, but for the families who love and care for them.

I’m walking these miles for my Dad, for Gill, and for every family affected by dementia. For awareness. For better support. For hope that one day no one has to watch their loved ones disappear piece by piece.

If you’re able to donate, share, or simply cheer me on, it would mean the world. Every step I take is for them 💙

Thank you for reading and for supporting this cause.
