I'm walking 62 Miles in October

I’m walking 62 Miles in October and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Monday 27th Oct
I am absolutely blown away by everyone's support and donations. This all started because I had been down the borders visiting my granny and grandpa then I seen a random ad on FB about walking 62 miles throughout October to raise money for dementiauk.
Anyone who knows me, knows how close I am to my granny and grandpa. Unfortunately my granny had to go into a home last year after spending months in hospital after a fall. Her dementia had deteriorated so much and my grandpa at the age of 93 just couldn't look after her anymore, it was the hardest decision of our lives. They have been married 67 years, never a night apart but it just wasn't safe anymore. He was getting the bus every single day and walking 20 mins to just sit with her as she sleeps or shouts, she thinks hes her dad sometimes. Due to his frail health we had to reduce this to 5 days a week but it breaks my heart thinking of him alone, when all he knows is her, she is his entire world.
Sadly she doesn't even recognise us anymore and that breaks my heart, its almost a 4 hour round trip but we visit regularly. With dementia the feeling of helplessness tears you apart, It is such a cruel disease so I decided to take on this challenge and completed with a 9.5 mile walk 3 days ahead of target. And although this money raised won't directly help my family, it will help other familys suffering. I was so unwell with a raging kidney infection, some days in so much pain i couldnt even stand up straight but I forced myself to go out to top up my miles and  Im not one to toot my own horn but im so proud of myself.
I am so incredibly blessed and lucky to have the most amazing friends and family and i am so thankful for everyone's donations, I really really appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you 🩷
Giving my legs a rest tonight but will be back out tomorrow and Wednesday to get some extra miles in to hopefully take me up to 70 miles 😘

I did it!!!! 🥳🥳

Monday 27th Oct
Sundays walk consisted of 9.5 miles and almost 20k steps but we ended it on a high, thank u so much to my beautiful Friend shona for walking these last miles with me and thank you to everyone for your generous donations, it means the world to me

Saturdays walk

Saturday 25th Oct
Had a little buddy join me today although had a total disaster and my phone died at 3.7k 😱 I had no way of checking how many more steps i was doing of even the time as i dont have a watch but just kept walking. Checked the time when I got back and i had been out 35 mins from when my battery died so I am confident I i hit 5 or maybe even more but will record it as just over 5k.

Fridays walk

Friday 24th Oct
Beautiful walk round pittencrief today, managed 5k and then went back out when i got home to do another 2 miles as I really wanted to do 5 miles today. Going back out was the last thing I wanted to do but I did it 🥳

Sundays walk

Sunday 19th Oct

*strava didn't work but thankfully I always put the Samsung health app on too so the walk was recorded.

Still really struggling with this kidney infection and the pain is killing my soul big time but I only managed 1.8 miles yesterday and had to give in so was determined to keep on target tonight. In the pissing rain, and hobbling along but I managed the 5k. Super proud of myself for this one tonight.

Wednesdays walk

Wednesday 8th Oct
Cheeky 5k in the bag. Bit of a back and forth, round and round one tonight as Id just finished work and didnt have my headphones, id hugely recommend to anyone to get up and get out. The dread is real but always feel so much better after!

Tuesdays walk

Tuesday 7th Oct
Wasn't well yesterday and still felt like death today but out i went, another 3 miles closer to the goal!!

Sundays walk

Saturdays walk

Saturday 4th Oct
Was only planning 3 miles today but was enjoying it so much I did just over 5 miles and even found 2 lost little boys and returned them to their frantic grandad, theg had been playing hide and seek but got lost and were missing for 45 minutes! Bumped into some old friends too. Fab wee walk 🩶

Regretting my life choices 🤣

Friday 3rd Oct
5k walk in storm Amy!!

Such a cruel disease

Sunday 28th Sep
Married 67 years and we had to make the impossible decision last year for her to go into a home. My grandpa wouldn't admit how difficult it was at home with her..constantly falling, police and ambulance out every other day, the aggression, losing her day by day. She isn't happy in the home, she hates it, she wants to go home. She cries out for "billy" every day. He is 93 years old but gets the bus every day to just sit with her whilst she sleeps. Breaks my heart. This was her biggest fear and its only going to get worse which I think is the hardest part.
