I'm walking 30 miles in September

I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

2 donations received today from my lovely friends in my Aquafit class
Thank you Ches and Ann!
Walking completed but great to receive some positive comments and extra monies.
It's been a special and encouraging experience and not just for me.♡♡♡

October 1st

Wednesday 1st Oct
Walked 5.75 miles with the Ramblers today and wanted to post a thank you message to all the supporters amongst them as they were some of the first to sponsor me.
I was given another donation of £20 today unexpectedly from a member which touched me as they said that they had wanted to make a donation a few weeks ago but didn't have any money with them.
Thank you all my Rambler friends for taking an interest and sponsoring me ♡♡♡♡

Last day 30th

Tuesday 30th Sep
2.28 miles to the local Holy well in the warmth of the sunshine and saying hello to the cows finished this month's challenge. Celebrated with an ice cream from the local icecream parlour and was given a £20 donation from Lynne waiting in the queue, who noticed my tshirt and wanted to sponsor me, as her family is affected by dementia.
Thank you Lynne, almost at the end of my walk and  this encouraged me ♡♡♡
With gift aid and a few more monies promised, I hope to have raised just over £800.
Well done all the participants, and thankyou everyone along the way ♡♡♡

29th

Monday 29th Sep
Lovely warm day so after lunch went  locally to get my mile in and did 2.53 . Spoke to some people en route, and a friend at our local CoOp funeral directors ,who I called into say hello. She was pleased to see me and offered to sponsor me so I sent her my link to my fundraising page. Thank you Caroline.
Neighbours also made a donation as their family had been affected by dementia too. So last but one day and very encouraged by the sponsors at this stage of the challenge.
Thank you Liz and Charles. ♡♡♡♡

28th

Monday 29th Sep
A short walk locally today 1.65 miles
Harvest Church service this morning and seeing family to catch up after our holiday
Only a few more days to go but will still continue my minimum each day.
Everyone on the Dementia team are doing really well! Keep going until the end ♡♡♡♡

27th

Saturday 27th Sep
A busy church calender this last few days.
After a funeral yesterday I called in on a friend and collected some flowers and greenery from his garden for the Harvest window display.
This morning I took all my window display items and decorated my allocated sill. Had a coffee there as the Derby and Joan were holding a coffee morning. Then set off to a walk 1.15 mile loop before lunch.
Making  Soup for the Harvest Supper tonight and setting up in church.
Lovely Autumnal time of the year and had fun and good conversations whilst arranging the flowers and having my coffee. I even won a prize on the raffle!
So much fundraising going on but I do hope to encourage a few more donations towards Dementia before October arrives  ☆☆☆☆

19th - 24th September

Thursday 25th Sep
Been enjoying ourselves on Anglesey, exploring new places, reservoirs, art galleries, forests, beautiful bays. Saw red squirrels in the Dingle at Llangefni , seals resting on rocky outcrops at Newborough nature reserve and beach, and following footpaths which went along  part of the coastal path. Met some lovely people when worshipping at Pentreath church, at a regular craft fair, in the cafés  and along the way.
A lovely holiday and recorded my miles as set walks each day.  A bit colder for wearing my tshirt on it's own but made people aware about Dementia Uk to explain that although walking in the rain it was for a good cause.

Day 16, 17 & 18

Thursday 18th Sep
The last three days I have been getting ready for our break in Anglesey so  Day 16, a mile, Day 17 a mile after driving almost 200 miles, arrived, walked up the country lane where our cottage is, turned around after half a mile, then returned to the cottage to make tea then collapsed in tiredness!
Day 18, we set off from the cottage on foot to explore our surroundings and achieved 6 miles , exploring a nearby harbour. Very windy and drizzly day but hey that's Wales!
Some new donations too. Thank you Sponsors!
And  keeping going to be part of team Dementia ♡♡♡♡

Day 15

Monday 15th Sep
Due to my husband's health, having to surrender his driving licence temporarily, I did the driving today. I have learnt how to drive his automatic estate car. We spent the day seeing a friend and her mum, who lives 65 miles away. I only usually drive locally, so I am pleased with my confidence in driving further afield.
It was very windy and we were both a bit tired. However I was determined to walk my mile and we did 1.41 miles  after the journey and having had our tea.
Another £10 promised!
Lovely to read all the posts on the Dementia FB page keeping us filled with determination  ♡♡♡

Day 14

Sunday 14th Sep
1.19 miles walked  on a rather wet and breezy evening after a day of downpours.
Another sponsor received too.
Reached my 30 miles now! But will continue to walk each day.
Walking some days with husband who is enjoying getting  regular exercise in. Win, win. ♡♡♡♡

Day 13

Saturday 13th Sep
Local walk in between a few showers today, 3.25 miles.
Took a few pics along the way. The weather forecast looks wet tomorrow, so I may have to resort to the cross trainer!
Another promise of a donation received. Almost at 30 miles but I will still walk each day.
Go Team Dementia, keep walking! ♡♡♡♡

Day 12

Friday 12th Sep
Walked 1.74 around the local nature reserve with a friend this afternoon. Did 1 lap as overcast and rained so we went for a coffee and finished our chat.
A very generous donation given today keeping me determined to achieve my set walk each day. (Thank you  very much, sponsor) ♡♡♡♡

Day 11

Thursday 11th Sep
Walked  in Leamington Spa today. Parked on the outskirts and walked in.
2.14 mile made to add to activity tracker.
I'm only using set daily walks to complete my 30 miles as aiming to walk a mile a day.
If time allows will walk further.
A few more promised donations to come, so keeping motivated ♡♡♡

Day 10

Wednesday 10th Sep
Paperwork and meeting day.
Another 1.11 mile achieved walking up and down the landing as determined to walk today. Time spent preparing for an AGM tomorrow and full day in a meeting today meant I had to resort to inside mileage. Collected another £20 sponsor! at the meeting though.
Thanks again to all my sponsors ♡♡♡♡

Day 9

Tuesday 9th Sep
A full diary today, so fitted walk in between lunch and hair appointment.
Walked with my husband who showed me how to use the Samsung health App on my phone as I hadn't realised my fitness watch had a low battery,  and it ran out.
I am still aiming for a set mile a day which I am achieving on top of normal daily movements.  Rethinking  how I can raise more money as donations quietening down.
Still enthused though and team Dementia are encouraging each other on the website which motivates me and I look forward to seeing their posts each day. ♡♡♡♡

Day 8

Monday 8th Sep
Achieved my mile today walking locally before starting my routines. 1.12 miles
Took a picture of bright blue skies and another hard hat  👷‍♂️ proudly worn by my neighbour!
Need to find a pond and a buttercup now.
Received an online donation from a stranger, which has now taken me over £500 with sponsor form donations added on, simply because I was wearing my tshirt. (Thank you, Chris)
22 days to go and hoping to raise more awareness.
Keep going team Dementia  ♡♡♡

Day 7

Sunday 7th Sep
Day 7
Had an afternoon walk around historic Warwick today, 3.25 miles. Took pictures in the park of an oak tree, a magpie, the river from the bridge, and I think I found a qualifying yellow safety hat, all part of Dementia Uk's motivational  bingo card idea to find certain objects on our daily walks . Fun! ♡♡♡♡

Day 6

Saturday 6th Sep
Day 6
After a morning doing the washing and getting ready for a table top sale, I had a lovely afternoon at our local Community hub summer fair.
Took a few unwanted items and made £36.50 which I will donate to Dementia Uk.
Great meeting new people and again wearing my t-shirt.  The hub is part of the Royal British legion care home which has a Dementia unit so people talked to me about their experiences.
After tea and watching a film to chill I was determined to do my mile, so tonight went on the cross trainer as too dark to go out.
Absolutely burned my  thighs! Prefer going out but if I'm allowed to say "I did it!"  1.71 km = 1.063 miles
I think I will sleep well 😴

Day 5

Saturday 6th Sep
Had a full day so went for my walk later, with hubby and took photos, from around our local area, of the items on the Bingo card. 3 post boxes, feathers, the sunset. and in the shop windows found hearts of various sorts including  a rainbow heart pendant in the funeral directors.
It made our walk more interesting.
Achieved 1.83 miles
25 days to go!

Day 3 & 4

Thursday 4th Sep
Day 3 A lovely 5 mile circular country walk along canal paths and fields with the local Ramblers and a £10 donation received!
Day 4 walked locally to church service and picked a loop on way home to make it just over 2 miles.
Enjoying sharing my commitment with people along the way! ♡♡♡

Day 1 and day 2

Tuesday 2nd Sep
Well I've started!
5 miles covered the first 2 days, set as specifically walked distances rather than including  normal steps distances made for each day.
A busy day today so aimed to do 1 mile around the park after my Tai Chi lesson. Walked laps in the drizzle as it was the only spare time I had .
Greatly encouraged by team Dementia and another sponsor donated to the cause, seeing the tshirt!

Nearly reached on line target!

Friday 29th Aug
Only £17 to go to reach on line target of £200
Very encouraging!
Again thank you all who have donated
☆☆☆ ♡♡♡

4 days to go!

Thursday 28th Aug
Sponsors are up to just over £300 now to include both on line and sponsor forms!
Very encouraging!
Thank you everyone
Getting ready to wear the Tshirt.
More updates to follow
♡♡♡♡♡

Just over half way there!

Thursday 21st Aug
Thank you to all my sponsors. I'm just over half way there!
My T shirt has arrived and I am looking forward to wearing it, whilst walking , to raise awareness.
September is around the corner and I'm already planning where I will walk each day.
