I'm walking (at Least) 62 Miles in October for Dementia UK
This October, I'm walking 62 Miles (and more) and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
My wonderful Nan, an able bodied independent woman of 85, living by herself, quite suddenly changed more or less overnight in January of this year.... she had forgotten how to use the phone, got so easily muddled, along with various other typical signs of Dementia, we a suspect she may have had a mini stroke.
A couple of months ago after various tests and a brain scan, she was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia.
She is now living full-time with my parents, who should actually be enjoying retirement, but are being full time carers for my Nan. I admire them grately for all they do for Nan, but it's had a huge impact on them all and is so tough.
Dementia is an awful disease and is devastating to see the affects it has on our loved ones, as well as the outside stresses it brings.... so therefore I would like to raise money for Dementia UK to help this charity make a difference to help support our loved ones through these difficult times.
Your donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.
Thank you!
