Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Jack Bridge Circuit (4.4 miles)

Friday 16th Jan
It’s turned out to be a lovely day. Set off with E and J, Poppy and Hattie. This is one of my favourite paths. Colden Clough is so beautiful whatever the weather or season. Colden Water weaving its way through the valley over waterfalls. Through beech woods to Lumb Bsnk and down to the mill chimneys . Up along the side to Jack Bridge where we settled for a coffee stop.. then back along the ‘motorway path’ down towards Hebden Bridge. Highlights were chatting with my fabulous friends, blue skies and sunshine, happy, muddy dogs and the waterfalls.

Tree felling in Hardcastle Crags (2 miles)

Thursday 15th Jan
Weather wasn’t great yesterday but the whole family got out for a 2 mile circuit to Hardcastle Crags. We could hear chain saws from a distance. The National Trust were taking out some Beech trees. We chatted to one of the wardens who explained that this was because they were invasive and also meant they could get to the non native conifers that had been planted in one area of the wood.
Teresa spotted amazing fungus growing on dead wood. We chatted with a number of dog walkers. Then the sun came out if only for a while.

Hardcastle Crags (2 miles)

Monday 12th Jan
Miserable rainy day brightened by a lovely walk through Hardcastle Crags to Gibson Mill and back. Good chat all the way with J. Put the world to rights.

Brearley Fields (3 miles)

Friday 9th Jan
Walked with Jayne and Hattie around Breatley fields to Mytholmroyd. Slightly warmer day though still icy in places and the ground hard underfoot. Always lovely to walk with Jayne. Her sharp eyes spotted the long tailed tits and gold finches in the bushes.

Winter’s day in HB (5.4 miles)

Tuesday 6th Jan
A very wintery day today. Snow on the ground. Difficult walking around here because everything is on a hill. Still I managed to clock up 5.4 miles walking around the town and along the river. Saw a friend out walking and joined her for 10 minutes. Lovely to be out and about

Walk 1- Torrs Point (4 miles)

Sunday 4th Jan
Beautiful cold, sunny day. Ice on the ground and on the beach. Poppy and I set off to Torrs Point, near Kircudbright . Stunning clear views . Stayed with the coast to Torrs Point. Two red deer crossed our path, Poppy attempted to give chase.

A Wonderful Friend

Friday 2nd Jan

Like most people, i have had family members and friends affected by dementia.

A wonderful friend is currently experiencing the many challenges that dementing illnesses present. Despite this, her amazing caring spirit and sense of humour remain. One of her many passions was walking which is why this challenge seems so appropriate.

I intend to walk new and familiar routes in Calderdale and Dumfries and Galloway and will log my progress as I go.
