I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK
This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.
Thank you!

Day 31 The End
Saturday 31st Jan Well, I did it. I thought it would be easy and I was wrong. I had decided the walks had to be extra to what I might do anyway. Full time employment, children and hobbies all had to be walked around. My arthritis flair up did not help and I'm only now beginning to see my kneecaps again as the swelling reduces.
Day 30
Saturday 31st Jan Friday night walk... very late and very dark. To the lovely couple I scared on the snicket, sorry. I forgot my headlamp and my coat is black, too. Share
Day 29
Thursday 29th Jan It felt okay to be walking until the home stretch when I got a bit wobbly! Share
Day 27
Tuesday 27th Jan Ouch. A very short walk on my very painful short legs. Tomorrow is another day and I hope I can do at least a mile! Share
Day 25
Monday 26th Jan A quick walk after escape room but I did the extra wiggly bit up beyond school, the park and through the snicket. Share
Day 24
Saturday 24th Jan Daytime walk across pit top to the church, down to The Crown and along to home. It seems like it should be more than there miles
Day 22
Thursday 22nd Jan Walk in the drizzle with the youngest. She made me go further so that's good! Share
Day 21
Wednesday 21st Jan Walked home from shopping. Dropped off at the top of the villages by Brownies club. It wasn't quite a mile. Now I've got 14 miles to do in 10 days. Share
Day 20
Wednesday 21st Jan Went for a walk before birthday girl's tea. Thank goodness for a cancelled team meeting else I'd have been walking at midnight! The walks give me time to call people and chat. Mum was very chatty and we chatted about the way some people worry about things they can't control. Mum's resilience is incredible. Share
Day 19
Wednesday 21st Jan Walked on treadmill at the gym but it was too late to do a Strava walk by the time I finished icing a birthday cake! Share
Day 18
Sunday 18th Jan Walked the river and on to the pit top. I was having time to myself and thinking about holidays from my childhood. I was very lucky back then to see so much and experience a true variety of people and places. Thanks to V,R,P,C,S xx Share
Day 17
Saturday 17th Jan I lapped the rugby field when watching Andy and did a few detours at half time. It was the only option on yet another busy day! Share
Day 16
Friday 16th Jan Usual route but the other way round! All in the light because Friday is an early finish. Share
Day 15
Thursday 15th Jan Just a quick one around my usual route. It was drizzle and wet so no fun. My bones were hurting and I can't decide if it's the boots, the weather, the lack of sleep or lack of pills. Anyway, it's not like it's a major issue because I just walked slower. Share
Day 14
Wednesday 14th Jan Route around the pitstop....started in the light but ended in the dark. Share
Day 13
Wednesday 14th Jan Late walk after 12 hours at school. Tough going but it's getting warmer. Share
Day 10
Saturday 10th Jan Wore my new t-shirt and walked along the river (I had coats on as well!) Share
Day 9
Saturday 10th Jan Usual route around the village wrapped up very warm. The day my T-shirt arrived. Share
Day 7
Wednesday 7th Jan Got a walk in before it was fully dark and really cold. Happy with my 1 mile route! Share
Day 6
Tuesday 6th Jan Cold but I wrapped up and went.
Day 5
Monday 5th Jan It was getting dark, snow on the ground and very cold. I was able to motivate myself though because these are small inconveniences to me and nothing like struggling with dementia. Share
Day 3
Saturday 3rd Jan With Andy in Sheffield as we thought it might be warmer. We were wrong! Share
Planning
Sunday 28th Dec I'm planning to do 50 miles of walking in January. If you know me, you know why this will be difficult to complete. I'm going to make time to do this even if it means really long walks on Saturday and Sunday in the last weekend.Thank you to my Sponsors
