Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

I'm so proud to say I actually walked 58.5 miles.

Those miles have taken me along beaches, through woodlands, and on countless dog walks — fresh air, quiet moments, and time to reflect. Some walks were uplifting, some emotional, but every step felt meaningful.

This challenge was never just about the miles.

It was about raising awareness and doing something positive for a cause that means so much to me and my family.

Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored me, supported me, and cheered me on. Your kindness, generosity, and encouragement truly mean more than I can put into words

Why I’m taking on this …

Thursday 1st Jan

As many of you know, my mum has dementia. Back in 2019, as a family we began to notice small changes in her — little things that at first we brushed aside, like many families do. But during 2020, those small things gradually became bigger, and sadly Mum was diagnosed with Late Onset Dementia.

Since then, we’ve done everything we can to support her, and we’ve also been incredibly grateful for the amazing carers who help us. I am now a full-time carer for both Mum and Dad, and although I wouldn’t change being there for them, there are days when it can feel really hard — emotionally and physically — for all of us as a family.

Dementia doesn’t just change the person you love. It changes routines, relationships, responsibilities and the shape of everyday life. There are moments of sadness, grief and frustration — but there are also moments of closeness, humour, tenderness, and deep love. We’re learning to cherish the small wins, the quiet moments, and the glimpses of the Mum we know so well.

We may not have chosen this journey, but we walk it together — with patience, love, and as much strength as we can find each day

If I can raise anything to help raise awareness for Dementia, I will take that as a win - and if sharing our story helps even one person feel less alone, then that means everything to me.
