I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

I honestly didn’t expect to get anywhere near this when I started 31 Miles in May… but here we are.
I’m blown away by the support — every donation, share, and message has meant a lot and kept me going through the tough days.
This challenge is for David Head and for everyone affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Let’s see how far we can take it together.

Day 2

Sunday 3rd May
1.72 miles done today 💙 Was hoping to get a bit more in, but a sore blister had other plans… that’s part of the challenge I suppose. Still, every step counts and we keep moving forward 👣 Massive thank you to everyone who’s donated and supported so far — it really does keep me going 🙌 Back at it again tomorrow 💙

Friday 1st May
Week 1 of 31 Miles in May 💙
This journey has started with one goal — to make a difference for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and for someone very close to me, David Head.
Every step this week has been for him. For the man who could build anything, fix anything, and was always there when you needed him.
This is just the beginning… but already it means a lot.
Let’s keep going 💙

A MASSIVE THANKYOU

Tuesday 28th Apr
Quick shoutout to everyone who’s supported my 31 Miles in May so far 💙
I’m currently at £452 raised, which is unbelievable — thank you all so much for the donations, shares, and messages 🙌
Im so happy to say we've passed the £500 mark  if anyone else can help in any way, whether that’s donating or simply sharing this post, it would mean a lot.
Every bit of support is making a difference for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and for families like ours.

My Father inlaw David Head

Wednesday 15th Apr
Watching someone you care about slowly decline is incredibly painful. To see a man who was once so capable, so independent, and so full of life begin to lose himself piece by piece… it’s something that’s hard to put into words. That’s why I’m doing this.

A MASSIVE THANKYOU

Wednesday 15th Apr
I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has kindly donated towards my 31 Miles in May challenge 💙
I’ve officially reached my target, and I honestly couldn’t have done it without all your support — it means more than you know.
But I don’t want to stop here… let’s keep it going and see what we can raise together 🙌
Every donation, share, and message of support is making a real difference.
Thank you all again 💙 #31MilesInMay #ThankYou #DementiaAwareness

31 Miles in May – For David Head

Tuesday 7th Apr

This May, I’m taking on a challenge that means more to me than just miles on a road — I’ll be walking 31 miles in support of Dementia UK, in honour of my father-in-law, David Head.
David is one of those men who could turn his hand to anything. Over the years, he’s built classic cars and motorcycles with incredible skill and patience. He’s constructed garages and brick sheds in his garden from the ground up — a true grafter, someone who always kept busy and took pride in what he created.
But more than that, he’s always been there for us. Whether it was helping around the house with DIY, lending a hand when something needed fixing, or helping me out with my scooter — David never hesitated. He’s the kind of person who just gets on with things, always willing to help others without asking for anything in return.
Life, however, hasn’t been kind to him.
David has already faced and overcome so much. He survived throat cancer, but it left him needing a tracheostomy. He’s lost sight in one eye, and without his hearing aids, he struggles to hear anything at all. Despite all of this, he’s carried on with strength.
Now, he’s facing his toughest challenge yet — dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Watching someone you care about slowly decline is incredibly painful. To see a man who was once so capable, so independent, and so full of life begin to lose himself piece by piece… it’s something that’s hard to put into words.
That’s why I’m doing this.
These 31 miles are for David — for the man he is, and everything he’s been through. But they’re also for everyone else affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. For the families watching their loved ones change. For the people fighting a battle they never chose.
If this challenge can help raise awareness, support vital care, or make even the smallest difference, then every step will be worth it.
This one’s for you, David. 💙
