Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Almost there!

Wednesday 28th Jan
Despite a migraine and work stuff my hat and I have still managed to get out and about though mainly on errands and everyday things and I've made it to 43.2 miles! Just 6.8 miles left and still 3 days to do it in! All support towards the marvellous work that this charity is doing supporting families affected by Dementia is truly appreciated!

3.3 miles - sun and a bit of mud!

Tuesday 20th Jan
Mileage total up to 36 as of today. Nice brisk walk out in the later afternoon sunshine. Hat got another outing too 😃 Decided to walk the last part of the walk across the grass in the park rather than sticking to the paths - let's just say I had to wash my boots when I got back!!

Fully kitted out!

Saturday 17th Jan
Began the day with parkrun, then walked to the church ladies brunch, before waking on to a churches partnership meeting and then heading home getting to the grand total of 4.75 miles bringing my overall total up to 32.75miles! Wore my t-shirt for parkrun and then found my February Challenge beanie had arrived as well so gave it an outing given that it's more beanie than t-shirt weather!

Another 2 miles completed

Wednesday 14th Jan
A brisk walk going twice clockwise around the park for another 2 miles added to my completed total. 27.1 done and enjoying the discipline of getting out there!

Another 2 miles done

Tuesday 13th Jan
Two miles done today just as the sun was setting over the park. And this means I'm officially just over halfway to my 50 mile target. And I'm also just over halfway to my fundraising target too - yay!

Mile by mile

Sunday 11th Jan
Another mile done today -  it was hard going again as though I started out on paths that had thankfully cleared, the park behind the house and the roads on the rest of my route were very icy and wet. Put my wellies to good use to keep my feet dry!

Racking up the mileage

Friday 9th Jan
So - my mileage total now stands at 15.8 having had to fit walks in around work commitments, oh, and today's snow after the snowstorm last night. Massively appreciating every donation made - such an encouragement to keep going!

Day 1 done

Thursday 1st Jan
Made a good start to the challenge today - 5.9 miles in total. I started with a rather chilly New Year's Day Parkrun and then went for a twilight wander this afternoon.

Stepping into 2026

Friday 26th Dec
To start 2026 off I am continuing with a walking theme having enjoyed a pilgrimage walk so much last April walking from Assisi to Rome over 17 days.

I'm going to be walking 50 miles in January for Dementia UK because supporting those whose families are affected by Dementia and Alzheimer's is a cause that is close to my heart because of how the disease affected my family - thinking of my Mum, my Mother-in-law and my uncles, but I know so many friends have been impacted too, so if you would like to donate towards the work of Dementia UK I'd be very grateful!

I'd already signed up to do the Way to St James Global Camino 2026 where I will be walking 15K locally for me, but at a similar time to more than 1000 people around the world, during 9-10th January so this will be a part of my 50 miles!
