I'm cycling 300 miles for Dementia UK

This June, I'm cycling 300 miles and raising funds to support Dementia UK

I’ve chosen Dementia UK because I write Safeguarding Adult Reviews. I’ve written quite a number that concern people suffering from dementia. What has really impressed me is how the Admiral Nurses, funded by Dementia UK provide brilliant support to the families involved. They are expert, kind, compassionate and caring. Very few people have heard of Admiral Nurses. They deserve much better funding and recognition.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Mission accomplished!

Wednesday 25th Jun
I completed the challenge of cycling 300 miles in June for Dementia UK today.
The minimum was 10 miles a day, I averaged 12.5 miles a day for 24 consecutive days. Come wind (quite a bit), come shine (possibly too much) and come rain (very little).
Your support and encouragement has meant everything to me. We have raised a total of £611 so far, that’s 19 hours of time that a specialist dementia nurse can spend with a family.
Overall, 636 people have taken part in the challenge, raising very nearly 80,000 for a great charity.
Thank you!

Two thirds of the way there!

My thanks to everyone who has donated to this great charity so far. I’ve just clocked 200 miles so far this month. 100 to go to meet the target. £426 raised to date thanks to you kind people.
I’m rather wishing that it wasn’t quite so hot out there…but challenges are meant to be challenging! Aren’t they?

Thank you to my Sponsors

Hi Alan It is really great that you are doing this 5 years ago, an Admiral Nurse was a lifeline to me in trying to understand how best to engage with my fiercely independent mother, living alone in a flat in Queens Park in London. Don’t know what I would have done without him. Keep taking the SPF!! All the best David
