This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

30 Miles for Grandad 🩷

This September, I’m taking on a challenge that means a lot more to me than simply walking 30 miles.

I’m walking 30 miles throughout September and raising money for Dementia UK, in memory of my grandad. ❤️

Just over 10 years ago, we lost him to dementia.

I don’t think you ever really forget what it feels like to watch someone you love slowly become less and less like the person you knew.

I watched my grandad’s light slowly burn out.

The man who had always been so full of happiness, who brought so much joy to the people around him, slowly became someone who was sad, angry, confused and frightened.

Memories were stolen from him.
Pieces of him disappeared little by little.
And watching that happen was heartbreaking and cruel.

It didn’t just affect him either. Dementia stole my family too. It changed relationships, changed our lives and left a kind of grief that doesn’t simply disappear when someone is gone.

It’s been a whole decade, but somehow it still doesn’t feel right.

So this September, I’m putting my feet to work for something that is incredibly close to my heart. 🥹

I’ll be walking 30 miles throughout the month, raising money for Dementia UK, who support families living with dementia.

I’m doing this for my grandad.
For the families who are living through what we did.
And for the people who are still fighting every day to keep the light shining for the people they love.
