I'm walking 30 miles in September
Hi Everyone
On 28th September it’ll be 4 years since Mum died. She had Vascular Dementia - a condition that affects thousands in the U.K. When Mum was first diagnosed we had no idea where to turn or seek advice. She received great Medical care but there was no practical help. Admiral Nurses are a vital tool in closing the loop in Dementia care - adding the care & living elements together. I wish there’d been one locally for Mum. That’s why I’m doing these walks - so more people can get real help, in real time , from trained professionals.
“ I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.
An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.
Thank you!”

Sunday 28th Sep
4 Years
Sunday 28th Sep We lost mum 4 years ago today from Vascular Dementia. It took over completely by the end. I wish we’d had access to an Admiral Nurse back then. Even though I’m finding the walks incredibly painful at times, I’m determined to clock up 30 miles in memory of Mum. She was so brave when she finally had a diagnosis, quietly telling people she had dementia - it gave her a freedom to just be, not hide away and accept her new normal. Share

So far so good
Thursday 4th Sep It’s only been a few days since starting this challenge and to be honest I’m surprised I’ve made it to day 4 . As you know, I suffer with chronic pain condition in both legs called CRPS - walking, just standing can be intolerable at times so a mile a day is ALOT for little old me. When I walk I think of Mum , remembering her love of music and singing spurs me on. Dementia took away so much but music remained a constant source of comfort to her until the end.
